BUG SEX: Having Sex with Bugs in Hentai

Content Warning: Fictional Bestiality, Sex With Bugs (duh), Non-consent/Rape, Impregnation, Egg Laying/Oviposition, Horror

There's a particular genre of hentai we've found-- or at least, our primary writer has-- rather interesting. Not simply out of a sense of "Oo, that's kinky," but a deeper curiosity that begs the question; why? What makes this enticing to readers or watchers? Is there something in particular that this fetish appeals to, or is it just a broadening of fictional bestiality fetishists? A desire to go even further into the weird and taboo, if you will.

Well, we can't exactly answer that. There's no way to collect reliable enough data to answer it, but we can certainly speculate! Here's a diagram of how we think this kink crosses with other, similar kinks:

Cursed Venn diagram aside, let's talk about the tropes used in specifically bug-fucking hentai.

When one dives into the realm of bugfucking, the type of content they will find is wholly dependent on the location they choose to do so. When searching for Japanese work, specifically over nhentai.net and similar websites, one will most often find Woman X Bug pieces, particularly those that play up the woman's involvement. We will be using the artist Chiba Tetsutarou for this example.

Chiba (let us know if we should be abbreviating their name differently!) has written many works in the bugfucker genre, including Mushi Yuugi (虫遊戯 第1話), a multi-chapter work depicting a young woman ravaged by her father's bug collection. This woman is the focus of the story, along with one particularly large insect which takes a liking to her... juices (or pheromones?). The other insects follow suit, "feeding" on her secretions and nipples, paying special attention to those areas with the tiniest of pincers and affections.

The intent appears to be on the woman's genitals and nipples, focusing heavily on those aspects of her and how the bugs enjoy them. There are a great deal of closeups and establishing shots of her crotch and breasts. The bugs are drawn semi-realistically, with the least realistic insect being the largest, a fantasy-species of big-dick-bug. As this is not a proper h-review, we won't be providing pictures (Aww!).

This mantis-like insect stirs up a great deal of trouble when escaping its cage and raping it's owners daughter (who is college-aged, for those wondering). There is a good amount of focus on how disgusting the act is, and how "creepy" insects are, pushing the taboo nature of the act. Eventually, the protagonist grows to enjoy this depravity: the feeling of many legs skittering over their body, the sensation of the insect's pincers and mandibles, the fat bug cock...

The focus of Chiba's work seems clear: it's showcasing the woman and the taboo act she's committing (or having committed against her), not unlike most female-centric erotic manga. The woman is the sexy object or vessel, while the bug represents the taboo. The bug makes the beautiful, sensual woman cum despite how disgusting the interaction should be.

Of course, that's a lot of speculation, and could be applied to most taboo h-manga. "Oh no, this pure and noble woman is being deflowered by some terrible thing and she is enjoying it! How depraved! How disgusting!" It actually gets pretty boring after the fiftieth or so h-animanga. What if the woman just enjoyed it without moral grandstanding? Or, even better, what if the creators didn't feel the need to shoehorn it in all the time?

That brings us to our next location, a long dead era that has since retired its infamy to the world wide web: tumblr.

tumblr, the dreaded hellsite, the best place for porn that then banned porn in 2018, was the other bastion of bugfuckers. Sure, FurAffinity and e621 had some, but none quite as interesting as the phenomenon that once happened on the now "squeaky-clean," Yahoo-owned technical mess that is tumblr.

This is where bugfuckers flourished, much like other subculture fetishes. While not much remains today (for obvious reasons), a great deal of the bugfucking content there was dedicated to some level of anatomical accuracy. Not all of the bugs had penises in the traditional sense, and many instead used their humanoid partner as a repository for eggs or spermatophores. Wasps, centipedes, slugs and snails (which are molluscs, mind you), mantises, spiders, and some beetle-like fantasy bugs were very popular, and most bugfucking pieces still remaining today feature one or more of those species.

Often the focus wasn't so much on the woman and her degeneracy, but the raw, horny energy that the artists felt for their work. Fear, too, played a big part in tumblr bugfucking culture. Being plowed by a wasp was terrifying, and their work tended to play up that aspect of the genre. Being afraid of the giant bug, not necessarily because it was a bug, but because a giant bug laying eggs in you would be scary. And, of course, as we all know, with fear comes arousal.

The tonal shift between Japanese h-animanga bugfucking and tumblr's bugfucking are immediate and palpable. The aspect of fear isn't always explored to deeply in the first, while the latter appeared to thrive off of it; almost as if the latter had a sub-genre of horror, rather than just everyday wank material. Unless horror is your everyday wank material, of course. We won't judge!

Ultimately, this article was the product of a person who has only ever dabbled in the genre, and there is likely so much more to learn about the culture around this fetish than can be provided in this piece here. With the loss of most of the porn on tumblr before 2018, as well as artists struggling to find new homes or reuniting with their old following, it may be exceedingly difficult to properly plot the progression of bugfucking to the modern day. It's yet another example of content purging that has wiped years of a subculture off the face of the Earth.

Why do people like to fuck bugs in hentai? Because the taboo is sexy, because fear is sexy, and because bugs, apparently are sexy. 😉

Apologies for the shorter piece! We were on a time crunch this week. Would readers prefer we wait to publish articles, even if it's passed the designated time (Wednesday, 3PM EST!)? As in, skip the article for that week to have extra time to work on it, then publishing it the week after? Comment below to let us know!
To slot in an update as well, we will be publishing h-reviews on Fridays at 7PM EST now! Keep an eye out for this week's review!
We do have something in the works for our site, too! Stay tuned for that! ❤️
